Financial Aid Appeals for Seniors
Don't Accept the First Offer.
Most families never appeal their financial aid award. The ones who do it the right way often walk away with more grant and scholarship money.
Why Appeal?
|
First offers aren't final Colleges expect some families to ask. Many have room to move when the request is made well. |
How you ask matters A letter that simply asks for more money rarely works. Appeals succeed with the right evidence, framing and timing. |
It adds up Added first-year aid usually renews, so a successful appeal can be worth four times as much over four years. |

Our $500 Refund Guarantee
If your appeal doesn't produce more than $1,000 in added grant and scholarship money, we'll refund $500, half your fee.
Start by sending us your student's college list. We review every list within 2 business days and confirm in writing whether it qualifies for the guarantee. The guarantee is available to families who submit their list by November 30, 2026. Starting December 1, the program is still $1,000, without the guarantee.

Refund Guarantee Terms
Eligibility. The refund guarantee applies only when (1) the family submits the student's college list on or before November 30, 2026; (2) Genesis College Strategies reviews the list and confirms in writing that it qualifies for the guarantee; and (3) the family enrolls and pays in full within 5 business days of that confirmation. At enrollment, the student must be a high school senior applying to at least five colleges. Genesis College Strategies may decline the guarantee for any list, for example one with limited appeal potential; families may still enroll at $1,000 without the guarantee. Lists submitted on or after December 1, 2026 are not eligible for the guarantee.
The guarantee. If the appeal does not produce more than $1,000 in added first-year gift aid at the college the student enrolls at, Genesis College Strategies will refund $500.
How savings are measured. Savings are the increase in first-year gift aid (grants, scholarships and merit aid) between the enrolling college's original award and its final award. Loans and work-study do not count. The "original award" is the college's first official award letter, not an estimate. The "final award" is the award after the college's appeal decision, or the award in effect on June 30, 2027, whichever comes first.
Excluded from savings. Changes caused by outside scholarships, corrections to the family's FAFSA or CSS Profile, or changes in the family's finances.
How to claim. Request the refund in writing within 30 days of the enrolling college's final award letter, and include the original and final award letters.
The guarantee does not apply if: the family misses document deadlines or does not submit the appeal prepared for them; the family pays an enrollment deposit before the appeal is decided without our agreement; no appeal was submitted to the college the student enrolls at; the student was admitted binding Early Decision; the student enrolls at a college with a published policy of not reconsidering aid; or the student does not enroll at any college.
